I agree, she was more interesting in season 2 and had a bit more depth, but for me, her leaving her child was not acceptable. First, I want to make clear that I’m not saying that giving a child up for adoption is bad or wrong in any way. It’s a decision people have to make and would have been good for her. However, in Lucy’s case, she (with VanAlden) treated this child like a product to be bought and sold. As soon as she used the baby to guilt money out of Nucky, she was gone. The child meant nothing to her. That takes a selfish person, IMO. Also, (especially in season 1) her entire function in the show was to be a sex object. That’s what she was written for. I would never “slut shame” a real human being, real people have real feelings and I am someone that belives women should be able to decide their own morals and do whatever they want with their bodies. But as character, that was her only function, so I will stand by the fact she was a ho bag. We’re both entitled to our opinions though. If she ends up having more substance in season 3, I am open to revise my feelings. I just doubt it, though. On the other hand, I dislike Lucy both ways.
On a personal level, she’s a ho bag. On a character level she is uninteresting and is only worth one thing… (This isn’t an insult to the writer’s of the show though, I think that’s sort of the point with her.) Actually, in Season 2 I almost started to empathize with her, but then she left her baby and she lost all of my respect. Lucy, don’t come back. Or, if you do, come back and die quickly…
AGREED. AGREED. AGREED. AGREED. AGREED.
THIS.
Really? I’ll agree that she’s obnoxious, but good god she got really interesting in season 2, and honestly I gained respect for her after leaving the baby. She would have been a crappy mother and she knew it (and I can’t really blame her for not wanting to be stuck with Creepy Van Bastard for the rest of her life), and the baby is honestly better off with its Swedish nanny than it would have been with Lucy. She got to be a lot more complex than I imagined she could have been, which is a hell of a plus for the writers AND Paz de la Vega in my book.
And is the slut-shaming really necessary?
