Favorite Characters: #3 “A Wild Irish Rose”
Margaret is one of my favorite characters simply because she’s so intelligent and always does what she wants.
I am an atheist, so I understand why people think that it was dumb for her to give all that money to the church, but you have to look at it from her perspective. Her primary objective is to ensure the well-being of her children; it’s what motivated her to stay with and go back to Nucky. (Also, I think she does love him, it’s just her children come first.) Margaret believes in God, so Van Alden scared the shit out of her when he told her that her actions would send her to hell, and when Emily got polio she thought that it was God’s wrath. Since she believes, the only logical thing she could do is to give to the church.
In my opinion, the only really stupid thing she’s done so far was signing over the property to the church. BUT IT WAS JUST PLAIN BAD ASS. I mean seriously, nothing good is going to come from f***ing over Nucky Thompson, but she wanted to, and she could, so she DID. Maybe doing it with Owen was a bit impulsive too, but Margaret Schroeder don’t give a shit, she do what she want.
